Meshmatic’s decimation tool reduces the resolution of your mesh. The tool helps with models that are heavy to load and render especially for mobile devices, AR, and VR. In this process, the angles for each edge or face are analyzed. Whenever the decimation tool recognizes neighboring faces or edges with similar angles, it merges them; however, if the software finds removing a face or an edge could deform the mesh, it does not merge them thereby keeping the mesh intact.
There are 3 different decimation tools in the toolbox: high, mid, and low. The low decimation is passive. High decimation means Meshmatic becomes more aggressive and tries to remove more faces. High decimation is riskier since it can delete details but it is also very useful when the model is still too heavy even after optimization.
