The order in which tools are applied in Meshmatic

Meshmatic’s profiles apply various tools to reach the desired conversion and optimization outcome. The order in which these tools is applied is important, having the wrong order can cause faulty results.  Some tools need to be applied before or after a specific tool to ensure it works properly. Refer to the table below when creating your own profile or editing an existing profile to ensure the tools you use are in the correct order.

For example, if you are using the “generate smooth normal” tool, you need to apply the “remove non manifold” tool before (refer to image below).

Tool name

Apply this tool before

Apply this tool after

Reduce high poly mesh (max, med, min) Remove non-manifolds Generate Normals
Generate Sharp Normals Remove non-manifold
Generate Smooth Normals Remove non-manifold
Remove internal faces
  • Vertex Cleanup
  • Remove Non-manifolds
  • Face Cleanup
  • Vertex Cleanup or Merge Close Vertices
  • Generate Normals
Generate UVs Vertex Cleanup Don’t run any mesh modifier tools after generating UV, such as generate normals, vertex or face cleanup, remove non-manifolds, or merge close vertices.
Combine level 1 groups
  • Face Cleanup
  • Vertex Cleanup or Merge Close Vertices
  • Generate Normals
Combine CAD components
  • Face Cleanup
  • Vertex Cleanup or Merge Close Vertices
  • Generate Normals
Merge close vertices (merge nearby vertices)   Generate Normals
